What is Ornapedia?
Ornapedia is a library of decorative arts images curated by Agrell Architectural Carving, one of the world's foremost custom woodcarving companies. It was created as a way to archive, search, and share the company's large and constantly expanding portfolio and research assets. Agrell Architectural Carving uses Ornapedia as both a sales and research tool; however, rather than keep it private, we decided to open it up to the public as a way to help other artisans and hopefully expand the breadth of the library.
How can Ornapedia help me?
This collection seeks to demonstrate good design and skillful execution in the ornamentation of a building or object, regardless of whether the medium is wood, stone, glass, or whatever. You can access these images to research a project or produce a proposal, for example. We've also included a Glossary to help you with some of the more arcane terminology.
How do I use it?
Use the search box located at the top of the page to launch the Advanced Search page. Here you can refine your search or browse for something else using familiar terms. You can also access the Advanced Search page directly here. Click on a thumbnail image to launch the full-size image with extra details.
You can also add images to a custom folder—create as many folders as you need! For example, you may find it useful to have one for each project, client, period or element. You can download a folder as a compressed file to your desktop, or grab HTML code to create a slideshow to embed on your blog or website. To add an image to an existing folder or to create a new folder, simply click on the icon below each image thumbnail.
Why should I sign up for an account?
You don't need to create an account to search and view Ornapedia's images. However, you'll need to sign up if you want to access some of our advanced features, such as folders, full-size downloads, embed codes, and commenting. If you'd like to upload your own images, please contact the Librarian.
